Longines Heritage Military
The Longines Heritage Military is a watch you either love or hate. It has as many fans as it does people who would be happy to see it disappear from Longine’s catalog altogether. I personally find it to be a very well-done remake of a vintage military timepiece. Its 38-mm case, while larger than that of the original, is the perfect size. It’s neither too small nor oversized like many modern watches. The design clearly comes from the military, with a tidy dial inside a round, brushed steel case. What’s more, a large crown makes it easy to set the Heritage Military’s tempered blue steel hands. Its classic looks have earned this timepiece a sizeable fanbase among the Longine faithful. That being said, some still feel this watch is a bit “too much,” citing the artificially aged dial that’s meant to mimic the look of a proper vintage watch. If that is the biggest problem with it, that’s fine by me. However, I acknowledge that the issue of a faux patina is a subjective matter. All in all, I like this watch, and whoever chooses to purchase it will too.
Enthusiast’s Corner: Rare or Exceptional Timepieces
Panerai Radiomir GMT Alarm
Even though the Radiomir GMT Alarm is far from Panerai’s most popular watch, it’s still a very cool timepiece. Where should I begin? Its design is classic Panerai with thin lugs, a cushion-like case, and huge luminous numerals and indices. The GMT and alarm functions make it the perfect travel companion. Then there’s its size: At 42 mm, it looks good on any wrist size and should appeal to more than just fans of large watches. If you purchase a Panerai Radiomir GMT Alarm, you’ll never need another travel watch. I know its two crowns may not be for everyone, but they’re necessary to operate the different functions. Even if you could do without its features, this Radiomir still has a lot to offer in terms of aesthetics. All in all, the Panerai Radiomir GMT Alarm is a worthy addition to any watch collecti
Iconic Timepieces: Great Value for Your Money
Nivada Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver
The Nivada Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver deserves a lot more attention than it currently gets. The long name aside, this watch is everything a vintage chronograph should be. To start, it’s made for pilots (Aviator), divers (Sea Diver), and everyone who loves chronographs (Chronomaster). The Nivada Chronomaster is wonderfully comfortable to wear and has a lovely vintage feel. Its 38-mm case is larger than that of many vintage chronographs yet still small enough to fit on any wrist. It also sports a 60-second external rotating bezel and interesting pump pushers. The bicompax subdial layout is easy to read. Arrow hands round off this fantastic timepiece. They betray the Nivada Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver as unmistakably vintage. The fact that it uses the Valjoux 92 column-wheel movement is simply the cherry on top. All of these features are why we consider the Nivada Chronomaster a true industry icon.
