This is a pre-owned Heuer Autavia GMT chronograph men's 11630 watch. 42mm case size in stainless steel, black baton dial on a black calf leather bracelet, powered by an automatic movement. This Heuer is in good condition complete with xupes presentation box. Circa 1960's.

“Pepsi” possibly springs to the mind of a watch lover when flashed a view of the red and blue bezel of this Autavia, but the fizzy drink nickname is reserved for the GMT bezel of different watch entirely.

This bezel is a key point of interest in that, like the rest of the watch, is in well-kept condition. Bezels for Heuer Autavia GMTs are hard to come by in the replacement market and are a tell-tale sign of the overall condition of the watch.

This version of the stainless steel Autavia GMT Chronograph has a celebratory feel to its design. Bright colours accent the dial and bezel and the unusual crown position adds further character. As well as being a feast for the eyes, the design has as much functional purpose as it does aesthetic beauty.

The right hand sub dial indicates chronograph minutes with 5-minute intervals marked in orange bands. The left hand sub dial indicates chronograph hours with numbers in white 1 – 12. The central orange hand indicates chronograph seconds. The hour and minute hands are in white with lume inserts and the square ended GMT hand is in bright yellow with lume insert. The square date window is almost hidden away at 6 o’clock among the adjacent circular features and colours with black date on silver wheel. The logo and script is white paint with lume hour markers, white minute track and orange hour indices in the minute track.

This watch has a fairly complicated movement to power its various functions of date display, chronograph and second time zone. It runs on the Heuer Calibre 14 which is a younger variant on the infamous Heuer calibre 11. Neither the base calibre 11 and sister calibre 12 feature the GMT complication but otherwise these calibres are all very similar. It's said that the reference 11630 and other references with the numbers 11 associate to this calibre 11 base movement.

This piece is more specifically a reference 11630 GMT with black subdials. This was an upgrade to the previous 1163 which had more protruding pushers and a sloped bezel rather than the flat bezel here. Both references feature bi-directional blue and red bezels. The 11630 also feature a lume spot in the bezel triangle at 12 o’clock as seen here and a flat sapphire crystal. 11630 is engraved between the lugs and all these references feature the main crown at 9 o’clock for time setting and chronograph pushers in their more regular positions of 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock.

The condition of this piece is commendable and its previous owners deserve praise for taking such great care of it. There are some slight surface blemishes that are almost undetectable to the naked eye. There are some slight marks to the bezel that has overall an even, faint age discolouration bringing the blue and red up a shade or two. There is a slight chip to the original glass at 2 o’clock.

Availability: This watch is in stock and available immediately.
