Panerai Bronzo

The Panerai Submersible Bronzo watches are true collector's items. The Italian manufacturer has brought five editions of this bronze watch to market, with many having extremely limited production runs. This exclusivity has caused collectors to flock to this model. In turn, market prices for the Bronzo have skyrocketed. The earlier editions are hugely popular, and can even be found selling for over twice their original list price.

An automatic in-house caliber ticks away inside these luxury watches. Each movement boasts a 72-hour (or three-day) power reserve, meaning you can set your Bronzo aside over the weekend without it running out of power. If you're purchasing a Panerai Bronzo as an investment, be sure to take good care of it. The better its condition, the higher the resale value.

These Panerai watches have bronze cases that quickly develop their own unique patina. This means that no two Panerai Bronzo watches are the same. Every watch has a hypoallergenic case back made of titanium and sapphire glass. As an added bonus, the use of sapphire glass allows you to watch the in-house movement at work.

Other interesting features of the Submersible Bronzo include its unidirectional bezel, 300 m (30 bar, 984 ft) of water resistance, and crown-protecting bridge that guards the crown and keeps it flush against the case. As part of the retro Luminor 1950 line, each Bronzo has wide lugs for the band and the letters "REG T.M." engraved on the crown guard.

Prices for the Panerai Submersible Bronzo start at between 18,000 and 19,000 USD. Current models such as the ref. PAM00968 with a brown dial and the 42-mm version with a blue dial (ref. PAM01074) come in in this price range.

If you're interested in purchasing one of the first three editions of the Bronzo, you'll have to reckon with an investment between 23,000 and 26,000 USD.

The original Panerai Bronzo from 2011 bears the reference number PAM00382 and is limited to a run of 1,000 pieces. It is dressed in a 47-mm bronze case with a bronze unidirectional bezel. The dial is green, and features a date window at 3 o'clock and a small seconds at 9 thanks to the in-house caliber P.9000 working away underneath. The hands pointing to the hour and minutes are partially skeletonized, letting you still read the small seconds when the central hands are moving between 8 and 10 o'clock. What's more, this model is water-resistant to 300 m (30 bar, 984 ft).

With an original list price of "only" 10,325 USD at its release, the PAM00382 was once the most affordable Panerai Bronzo. However, that didn't last for long. At peak demand, this watch required an investment of almost 40,000 USD. Prices have since come to rest at around 28,000 USD new.

Panerai presented the Luminor Submersible 1950 Bronzo 3 Days Power Reserve in 2013 under the reference number PAM00507. This model also had a limited run of 1,000 pieces. The case and bezel are much the same as its predecessor. However, unlike its close relative, this watch features a semicircular power reserve indicator on the lower half of its green dial. Inside its case, you'll find the automatic in-house caliber P.9002.

The MSRP for the ref. PAM00507 was 12,768 USD. Today, you'll need to set aside at least 29,000 USD.

The Panerai Bronzo PAM00671 made its debut in 2017. Like its two older siblings, this timepiece measures 47 mm across and has a bronze case and bezel. The manufacturer decided to only produce 1,000 of this reference as well.

The main feature of the PAM00671 is its blue dial boasting a date complication and small seconds subdial. The watch is powered by the caliber P.9010. By pulling the crown out to the first position, the wearer can set the hour hand; the small seconds will continue as normal. This is a particularly practical feature for frequent travelers and when switching between standard and daylight saving time. To set the time as usual, simply pull the crown out to the second position. This will automatically reset the seconds hand to the zero position, making it easier to synchronize your watch with atomic and radio clocks.

This special edition had a list price of 14,400 USD in 2017. Soon after its debut, prices for a mint-condition model climbed to almost 30,000 USD on Chrono24. Since then, prices have settled at around 25,000 USD.

Panerai launched the Luminor Submersible Bronzo ref. PAM00968 in 2019 at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). This model features a brown dial and was the first to be decorated with a matching ceramic bezel inlay. The newer Bronzo offers the same specs as the blue edition: a 47-mm case, water resistance to 300 m (30 bar, 984 ft), and the in-house caliber P.9010.

Panerai only produces 1,000 examples of the Submersible Bronzo PAM00968 per year. In addition to their website, Panerai also sells some of these timepieces through a select group of online retailers. This reference has an official list price of 17,800 USD. On Chrono24, you'll find this rare and coveted diving watch for around 20,000 USD new.

In the summer of 2021, Panerai added yet another Bronzo to their lineup: the Bronzo Blu Abisso PAM01074. As the name reveals, the dial on this model is a navy blue. The case and bezel are crafted from bronze. At first glance, you might mistake this model for the 2017 Blu Abisso ref. PAM00671. However, there is one major difference: the newer release measures only 42 mm across, making it significantly smaller than any other Bronzo.

Due to the more compact size, Panerai needed a smaller movement. They decided on the caliber P.900. This movement is based on the larger P.9000 and offers the same functionality, including the date display, small seconds, automatic winding, and a 72-hour power reserve.
